Element cycling and aquatic function in a changing Arctic

چکیده

Arctic systems are under intense pressure from anthropogenic activities, with climate change in particular inducing rapid the interlinked cycling of water and various biogeochemical constituents, thus also ecological processes that depend on these cycles. This special issue for Limnology Oceanography explores our changing Arctic, contributions across watershed-lake-river-estuary-coastal-open ocean continuum, foci ranging physical chemical to food webs. Some specific areas focus include legacy pollution mines, greenhouse gas emissions lakes, riverine fluxes materials, as well balance between primary production respiration column benthos marine systems. While varied focus, a collection papers this do provide direction into key avenues future effort. For example, while historically understudied due financial logistical costs, long-term monitoring efforts clearly critical documenting change, despite challenges. In freshwater systems, predicting biogeochemistry, ecology, based landscape characteristics lake morphology is an ongoing practice seems particularly promising both upscaling decisions focusing research coastal complementing local studies large-scale cross-disciplinary programs required elucidating trends. baseline it currently stands, constitutes majority current efforts, support observatories expanding remote sensing capabilities fundamental requirement tracking change.

Seafood from a changing Arctic

We review current knowledge about climate change impacts on Arctic seafood production. Large-scale changes in the Arctic marine food web can be expected for the next 40-100 years. Possible future trajectories under climate change for Arctic capture fisheries anticipate the movement of aquatic species into new waters and changed the dynamics of existing species. Negative consequences are expecte...

Aquatic cycling—What do we know? A scoping review on head-out aquatic cycling

Over the past few years, aquatic cycling has become a trending fitness activity. However, the literature has not been reviewed exhaustively. Therefore, using scoping review methodology, the aim of this review was to explore the current state of the literature concerning aquatic cycling. This study specifically focused on study designs, populations and outcomes. A comprehensive search of seven d...

Ecosystem element cycling

An ecosystem consists of all the biological organisms and the physical environments they occupy together within a defined area [1]. The actual boundaries of an ecosystem are generally defined by researchers studying the ecosystem, who are usually interested in understanding the processes that control some aspects of ecosystem dynamics. Thus, the spatial domain of an ecosystem might range in siz...
